Examples of Christian's work including madrone spheres, madrone burl baskets              (bleached, natural, burned) and bleached madrone books.                                                                                                                                                                                                         Truing up surface of wet maple chunk mounted to glue block. A carefully flattend       surface on the glue block and mandrone blank is important to provide a thin uniform layer of CA adhesive and strong attachment.   Wet burl madrone blank ready for turning.                                                                           Rough Shaping the outside with bowl gouge.    Outer form complete and decorated with shallow rings  Ready to hollow depth with hand drill.                                                                                                                      Removing waste with Stewart tool and small cutter tip. Final thickness approx 1/16.; established using tranmitted light on right side while cutting on the left.                                                                                                                                                     Parting basket from chuck. Turning is completed by microwaving, sandblasting, left natural/bleached/burned, oiled, and several light  coats of lacquer.

Lee explaining how the coring system works. Measurements are needed for proper bowl coring.   Lee figures we can get three bowl out of this piece. Here he is taking a depth measurement.   Everything looks good to go. When coring you want your speed low. Low speed = more torque.   Easy does it. Look coring is easy. One Finger!   Getting deeper. As Lee moves futher inward he also has to adjust the toolrest.   Back out the tool frequently to remove waste. Sorry this is the last picture before the battey crapped out.
