Len Salines

Len started by telling us his off center turnings began with furniture making.
This jig was used for a bench with arched back.
The picture to the right shows Len roughing a blank for an off center small tree.
The blank has been marked on each end with 3 center points.

Shaping of the tree.                                                                       Marking the individual off center reference points.

Len moves the piece to the off center marks. He warn us to check the tool rest for proper distance before turning on the lathe.
A scew is used to make cuts. (right) Again Len moves the piece to the opposite off center marks to make the cuts.

Here a colored marker is used accent the branches.
(right) Next is a wooden figure. Each end is center marked along with one offset mark on each end.

Next Len marks where the head, chest, and bottom are to be turned.
Starting on center the legs are turned first.

With a shift of the center the bottom and chest are formed.
(right) Back to center the neck is shaped.

I believe the head portion is off center and the foot is on center to form the head portion. Here are some of Lens off center turnings.

Very neat stuff. Sorry if the description are hard to follow. This is something that needs to be seen to fully understand each step.
Thanks for the demo.
