Lee's demo was full of very informative ways to go about spindle turning. Here he shows us the proper way to center the work on the lathe.
He spoke about centering, chucking, layout and design, measuring, and sanding.

He spoke about many chucking techniques, this is a box chuck. Getting the spindle round is easy with spindle roughing gouge. Not for bowl turning.

How can you tell if the wood is round with lathe running? Lee says story sticks are a great idea for duplicate work.
Lay tool on the wood if you hear and feel bounce it is not round yet.
Another way is feel with your hand. Reach over the back of the wood never the front.

Here he demonstraits how to use a caliper. Making a cove is easy using a spindle roughing gouge.
These are very handy for measuring.

Using a skew chisel he shows us how to go from square to round.

Spindle detail gouge is used to make a V pattern. This is the beginning of a bead.

Final shaping of the bead. Lee also shows us his boring bar and jig used for drilling holes through a spindle.
Lee encurages all turners to try turning spindles. It is a great way to improve your wood turning skills.
LVWT would like to thank Lee for his time to show us his techniques.
Thanks
