Bud Hohlfeld

This months demonstrator is Bud Hohlfeld. He is a current member of Bucks woodturners. He is showing us his Hobbit box.
He first starts with the bottom or base of box.

Next he cuts the bottom to shape.

Measuring for jam chuck.                                                                          Making jam chuck for a nice fit, not to snug.

With base reversed in jam chuck. He shear scraps base.                           Bud used duct tape to hold base to jam chuck.

Now time for the lid, a tennon is made to fit base.                                                      Checking how the base and lid matchup.

Bottom of lid gets a tennon for reverse chucking.                                      With the lid reversed he now starts final shaping.

Bud drills hole for finial using a flat bottom router bit.                                              Next he uses shop made texturing tool to add design.

He incorporated strait lines to define the texturing.                             Lid was then reversed and held in a jam with tape. Texture was also added to inside.

Bud turns a finial for the top.                                                                                     One very nice Hobbit box.

LWVT would like to thank Bud for the informative demo.
Thanks
