This month’s demo Harry Pye is showing us how he makes his small jug ornament.
Harry's demonstration starts by mounting the wood within the chucks jaws. Then he bores a hole with forstener bit to desired depth. Harry has cut the outside now cleaning up the top of the jug.
Jug now reverse chucked using the jaws from inside out. Next forming the outside shape. Parting off the end that’s not needed. Harry holds on to the parted off end and uses it for a spacer.
Remember that spacer? It is being used inside to stand the block off the chuck. This will become the top of the jug. Harry makes a tennon to fit in the jugs bottom.
The top now reversed and getting it round. Next he marks desired height of jugs neck.
Getting the neck to proper thickness. Notice the proper way to hold the tool while using caliper. Starting to shape the rounded top.
Beginning detail to jugs spout. Sanding and finish added. Now time for parting.
Making the jugs stopper. Harry colors the stopper using a marker. Next he is cuts it off the lathe.
Time to make the handle. Handle colored with marker to resemble walnut. Notice how he uses a nail set to catch the piece during part off.
Ever so careful to reverse chuck. Off the lathe Harry then uses a dremel to flatten the edge on the handle. Then glues. Finished product minus the handle.
Thank you Harry for this neat project.
